Microsoft man Major Nelson has told the world what the most-played Xbox Live games of 2008 were. The world is not going to be very surprised.

Halo 3 was, unshockingly, the top proper comes-in-a-box game, beating Call of Duty 4 into second place and GTA IV (it had an online mode?) into third.

On the much more interesting XBLA scene, Castle Crashers took top spot. There must've been some sort of promotion. Poor old Geometry Wars 2, the official best game of 2008, was only the second-most-played XBLA game of 2008, with cute little Braid taking third.
