MICROSOFT: 2008 was our best-ever year - and we're 8 million ahead of PlayStation3
Microsoft's just sent out a fact-filled press release, claiming that 2008 was the best-ever year for sales in the history of the Xbox "brand." The total global userbase of Xbox 360 now stands at 28 million consoles, which MS says is 8 million ahead of Sony's figure for PlayStation3.
Xbox Live sales are also UP, connections are UP and media download sales are UP - everything is UP. Here's how Microsoft brayed about its successes...
"The Xbox LIVE community also grew to more than 17 million active members, as online consumer spending increased 84 percent from last year. Since the launch of the Xbox 360 three years ago, more than $1 billion has been spent on Xbox LIVE."
Microsoft also revealed that during Christmas Day and New Year, there was a period where 1.5 million Xbox Live members were online simultaneously.
I have no idea if 1.5 million simultaneous people is good or bad, as the news seems to all be about hundreds of billions of things these days so I'm a bit dismissive of data measured in mere millions.
