Microsoft confirms the existence of "Jasper" Xbox 360 with its built-in 256MB memory card

xbox-360-jasper-confirmed.jpgThe existence of the latest revision of the Xbox 360 hardware, spotted in the wild last week, has just been officially confirmed by Microsoft.

Codenamed "Japser," the slightly altered Xbox 360 now features a 256MB chunk of internal memory - much larger than the older console's 16MB. It won't make your graphics better or your polygons move quicker, it's for saving games on. Here's how Microsoft told the world...

"We are constantly updating the console's more than 1700 internal components. We can confirm that we are moving to internal memory for the Xbox 360 Arcade. The physical internal memory is the same size as the previous external memory units - 256MB"

This enhanced space is also used for installing dashboard updates, so MS doesn't have to go through the pain of sending out free memory cards to Xbox 360 Arcade owners without any storage options. If you want one, you need to look out for Xbox 360 Arcade bundles that come with a 150Watt power supply instead of the old 175 - that's the telltale sign.
