Blizzard talks Diablo III on consoles

barbarian.jpgThere's still a chance that we'll see the third instalment of action heavy RPG series Diablo on consoles. "Every game we have the discussion about which platforms make the most sense" said Blizzard president Mike Morhaime, speaking at BlizzCon. "As Diablo 3 takes shape, I think we'll do an evaluation."

He added that "I think there is a pretty good argument to be made that that type of game might work very well on consoles," while mentioning that "There might be some technical limitations though that we might need to get past."

Blizzard's very PC-centric in both its releases and design philosophy. Starcraft and World of Warcraft are designed for PC and just wouldn't work that well on consoles. There are too many menus to navigate, too many actions that are much easier to perform with mouse than controller. Having said that, Diablo 3 could probably work. It doesn't feature a lot of digging around in menus, with the focus on fast-paced combat. We've not seen an RPG that can duplicate its brand of compulsive treasure hunting fun yet- it could work rather well.
