Raiden IV coming to Xbox 360, in Japan at least

If you know your 2D shooting games, chances are you're a big fan of Raiden. The original Seibu arcade game was a stunner, with the largest, widest possible weapons and rock-solid play. I put several thousand pounds into the Raiden machine in my local arcade over the course of five or six years and could still draw you the levels from memory. If you want. I have nothing better to do. Ask me. Please. I'll do it.

And now, for the benefit of old space-war veterans with as much spare time now as they had in 1990, the latest game, Raiden IV, has been confirmed for Xbox 360 by some Japanese news site. Here's what it looks like.

It'll be a proper, plastic box retail release in Japanese shops this September, which is bad news - Japanese exclusive releases tend to be region locked, so it'll be impossible to get a working copy. Unless you also get a Japanese 360. But no one likes Raiden that much.

We'll be keeping track of developments - this has "505 Games" written all over it for an eventual UK release. Hopefully it will come.
