MICROSOFT: We didn't pay for Final Fantasy XIII

final-fantasy-xiii-was-squares-decision.jpgMicrosoft has, in a roundabout way, denied handing Square Enix any cash to put Final Fantasy XIII on Xbox 360.

Microsoft has, in fact, stated the obvious by saying that the arrival of the MEGA GAME that will END ALL GAMES on Xbox 360 was pretty much a simple financial decision by Square - ie, that it wanted to tap-up the millions of Xbox 360 owners around the world for some money.

"I think the most obvious reason that they made the announcement is just looking at the success of our console," said Xbox Marketing Director Albert Penello, adding...

"Square has done games for us in the past, and I think there's a point where Square just has to look at the Xbox 360, the install base and attach rates that we're seeing and actually has to make a decision on their own that it's the right thing to do for them."

So there you go. You can stop making up stories about Microsoft paying Square five hundred billion billion billion dollars to bring FFXIII to Xbox 360. It didn't happen. Square just saw sense and decided against keeping the game exclusive to one floundering format.
