"Avatars" was real - 3D Dashboard and "Miis" coming to new Xbox Experience
The horror that was the Avatars leak has been confirmed at E3 - Xbox 360's new 3D dashboard will also include a little person-making section. Here, as the marketing people will tell you, you'll be able to make an avatar that "represents you" and "brings Xbox 360 to life."
Here's a look at the now-real Xbox Experience. It'll be dumbing-down your Xbox 360 and hopefully appealing to different demographics this Autumn. Hopefully there will be an option to stay "text only."
It's not all casual-gaming misery, though - the new Dashboard interface looks pretty, just like the Windows Aero 3D tab flipping system, plus you can put together a party of up to eight people via the Dash, then take this party from game to game. That'll come in handy for people who actually live the online gaming dream.
PlayStation Network will get an equivalent feature in firmware revision 109.8, which is due in Q4 of 2013.
