Alone in the Dark number one spot on European 360 sales charts

carnby_met_02.jpgIn a not entirely unsurprising turn of events, Alone in the Dark has managed to top Xbox 360 sales charts in Germany and the UK. To be honest, Alone in the Dark probably didn't succeed on the negotiable merits of its gameplay, but due to a case of canny timing on Atari's front. It was a quiet moment on the 360 lineup, with Ninja Gaiden 2 already out and Battlefield still a few weeks off.

Additionally, it's been a while since the system's had a big, blockbuster cinematic title, much less one that was a horror game. Of course, there's also the fact that the Alone in the Dark franchise is pretty well established by this stage. It's not that the title was completely undeserving- it definitely had a few neat new ideas, but they were bundled with a lot of highly questionable design decisions. But it wasn't good enough to get by on quality alone. Canny marketing indeed.
