LOTR Online coming to consoles

lotro.jpgJeffrey Steefel of Turbine Entertainment has suggested that PC-based MMO Lord Of The Rings Online might find its way to consoles.

LOTRO is now the number two western MMO ( after World of Warcraft and discounting all those Korean ones about golf and naked roulette) according to Steefel.

The company's licence extends to developing Tolkein-themed games on "all platforms", but obviously a console offers a rather different gaming experience than a PC. As Steeful says, "You've got to do everything in a thoughtful way and know why you're doing it, for who you're doing it, and then, what is an MMO on a console? What is that really? It has to be different."

The question is - how different can the game be and still maintain the feel of the PC version? PC gamers can use their keyboards to issue complex commands and if the UI is going to be simplified and reworked significantly then we can probably forget about being able to take on PC gamers from behind a gamepad.

Using the license for an online console game is not the same thing as extending the current MMO onto a console. It might very well end up being two different games.
