Blu-ray Xbox 360 BACK ON for 2008, says bizarre Korean news source
Apparently, so they say, according to the brother of a little bird, Microsoft has placed an order for a whole batch of Blu-ray-equipped Xbox 360s. We'll believe it when we see them on the shelves of Currys.
The website - which is entirely Korean but has been bravely and hopefully correctly translated by Kotaku - states that MS has contracted Korean firm Pegatron Technology to build a Blu-ray Xbox 360. You can't get more direct than that. They say it like it's a FACT and 100% true.
So there you go. Should it be true, it seems that Microsoft just had to wait a year before embracing Blu-ray, so it doesn't seem like such a shameful and embarrassing turnaround.
Can you imagine the impact a Blu-ray Xbox 360 would have were it to arrive this Christmas? It would certainly help fend off PS3 and would extend 360's lifespan by a good few more years. Plus it'll do until the internet's good enough to support Microsoft's online dream, at least.

I probably would buy one. Beats bowing down before Sony. Although it's still bowing down before Sony a bit :(

I wonder how many people would buy a blu ray equipped 360 that would also not own a PS3. Thats my problem, I'll have a PS3 so won't need it on a 360. I suppose for the niche section of the market who ZOMG must have blu ray but don't want a PS3 or stand alone player. Just seems like a small market.

you dont need a 360 if you have a decent PC...
you can play all of the best 360 games on a decent PC... like
Halo
Halo 2
Gears of war
Mass Effect
Bioshock...
Im not tryig to insult the 360 (I have one myself) Im just stating the facts...
it wouldve been better if MS bought the patent right of HD DVDs and released the games on the HD DVD format.. this way the devs have more room for their games...

Yes you can if you have a pc capable of playing those games, and don't mind waiting to get them, (mass effect is still not out on pc) not sure why you posted this under the blu-ray post, but ok. I would have to disagree about the Hd-dvd comment though. Most games still don't need more than 9gb of storage, this will change in the coming years but I don't think soon enough to really effect the development of games in the 360's lifespan. Having 360 games on the now extinct hddvd format would have resulted in bad PR for the system and possibly an increase in cost as the discs would now be proprietary and manufactured much less. Don't forget that the 360 hard drive is much more expensive than comparable models because it is proprietary.

Seems MS is finally seeing the truth. DVD-9 has its limitation, R* ceos said that was a factor in the production of GTA IV. They have to be part of the Blu-Ray association to use Blu-Ray, which they are not part of at the moment. Ontop of that, for existing users, most blu ray readers are above the £100 mark (which will be extrapolated by MS), which when armed with the cost of a HDD and 360 core kind of beats the point when you can just buy a PS3 with a built in drive, HDD etc. Abit late to be honest MS, I reckon it will be slammed with flaws once agaion, just like the 360 originally was when the wanted to release for 05 holiday period.
