Xbox 360 sales up 40% following price cut, as brave UK gamers defy economic situation and SPEND

UK chart compiler Chart-Track has said Xbox 360 sales rocketed in the wake of last week's price cut, with hardware sales up by, if we're being kind and exaggerating a little, nearly half.

"Xbox 360 is up 35-40 percent - that's from Friday, when the price cut came into effect, up to midnight Saturday," Chart-Track boss Dorian Bloch said. Which must've hurt him quite a lot as he's usually extremely pro-Sony in his hardware announcements.

Lovely Dorian then went on to hedge his bets - no doubt worried about everyone quoting him out of context - by pointing out that Easter is a critical period and Xbox 360 needs to keep selling over the next few weeks to firmly re-establish itself in the face of a seemingly revitalised - or at least, not sucking quite so hard - PlayStation3.

But anyway. A 40% rise in console sales with GTA IV coming in just over a month? Europe is not surrendering to Sony just yet.
