GTA IV readies itself for newspaper mauling

GTA360bx.pngWhile it's no surprise, according to Manhunt 2 developer Rockstar, Grand Theft Auto IV might just upset the daily papers a little. While any self-respecting gamer longs for a media that treat mature games with just a touch of understanding and respect, we all would be a bit disappointed if the next GTA installment didn't cause a bit of a newspaper outcry. Commercial games couldn't be further from punk, but part of the reason we love them is because of the laughable misguided reactions they receive in the mainstream media.

As reported by MCV in an article that quotes Rockstar as saying ‘GTA IV will send tabloids mad’ in its title, the founder of Rockstar Games, Mr. Dan Houser has been speaking to the North American press about the arruval of the highly anticipated sequel to San Andreas. After showing off his company's soon to be released hype-hurricane GTA IV, he revealed he expects the usual backlash against his game's violent content.

When asked if he expected negative press reaction, Houser replied; "I expect it because we've had so much of it in the past," before adding "I wish people would treat video games the same as other media. They seem to not want to do that for reasons that I don't understand. It's a convenient enemy for people."

Houser sights the more realistic visuals as part of the reason for his predicted press outcry. Let's face it though; GTA sells off of the back of the media hullabeloo it causes. In fact, they may as well send GTA IV branded pencil sharpeners to Daily Mail readers as of now.
