The Xbox Live "downtime apology" free game is... Undertow. Get it next Wednesday
By way of an apology for Xbox Live being broken over Christmas, Microsoft said it would give us all a free game. And guess what? The free game doesn't suck! It's not Frogger!
It's Undertow. Undertow is a (pause writing for furious Google research session) underwater shooter that looks really quite pretty, has online and offline co-op and supports up to 16 players. As a freebie, it certainly beats getting Carcassone or something that involves webcams and playing cards. It got review scores that were between "average" and "slightly above average" and will totally do for getting a few free Achievement points out of.
Undertow will have it's price changed from 800 points to £FREE for all Xbox Live Gold members - and even you disgraceful, freeloading Silver members get it for nothing too - on the condition that no one moans about Xbox Live any more and pretends everything was fine all along.
It will be available for 0 Gamerpoints starting from next Wednesday and will remain free until the following Sunday. If you already own Undertow, the Microsoft bloggers at Gamerscore Blog suggest you phone the tech support line and MS will "take care of you" in some other way...
