Prize for cheekiest bit of DLC now officially belongs to Transformers: The Game

Bumblebee_Drone_logo.JPGWe've already seen some pretty shameless attempts on Xbox Live to divest you of your hard-earned Microsoft Points. Charging for the Gears of War CoG tag videos was pretty bad. EA letting you unlock cars for a price in Need for Speed: Pro Street was even worse. But the boldest attempt has to be the recent news that you can now pay 500 Microsoft Points to unlock Transformer: The Game's upgrades and bonus items.

Why anyone would want to do any of this is beyond me. I just don't understand the appeal of these downloadable unlockables. You are playing a game because you enjoy it. Why pay more to make the game you're playing shorter? Is this really what DLC should be used for.

It's just weird.
