Metal Slug 3 update: It's a bit jerky and there's no blood - but that can be fixed
Well that was a bit of a disappointment. Not quite as crushing a disappointment as the button-press recognition pause that made XBLA Sonic The Hedgehog literally unplayable, but a shame nonetheless.
Metal Slug 3 has a graphics filter you can't switch off, giving everything the slightly blurry, pastel, modern art look other Live Arcade games often have - only you're usually allowed to switch it off and go back to lovely old blocky pixels. But not in Metal Slug 3. It ruins the glorious design somewhat.
And the blood, the glorious, nasty red stuff, has been turned white - presumably to keep the Germans happy as they're well sensitive about that sort of thing because of... well, you know.
But there is a solution!
Switch your Xbox 360's native language to Japanese - then the red blood re-appears and Metal Slug 3 starts to look a bit more like it should. What an awesomely old school 'cheat'.
It's not a perfect version of Metal Slug 3, mind, but if you've shovelled enough coins into the arcade machine over the years to put down a deposit on a small flat, you'll still be happy enough. This isn't supposed to be a proper review so there's not going to be a score on the end. But if it was, it'd be something like an eight.
