CES 2008: No HD DVD Xbox 360, but MGM and Disney to bring "content" to Xbox Video Store

ces-2008-mgm-disney-join-xbox-live-video-store.jpgThe hottest Xbox 360 news from CES 2008 was not the HD DVD Xbox 360 (which now officially does not exist) - it's the slightly lower-key news that MGM and Disney are bringing their stuff to the Xbox Live Video Store.

As ever, it's the Americans that are getting it all first and best. Although... the Disney part of the deal isn't the proper Disney Disney, it's the Disney company's TV wing. So don't expect HD downloads of Disney movies. Instead, American Xbox Live downloaders get to watch TV shows from the Disney-ABC TV arm of the company.

Which means they'll get the next series of Lost in HD, along with Grey’s Anatomy, Ugly Betty and Desperate Housewives. We won't, though, as Microsoft's already said that movies and music videos are enough for Europe.

So for us European lot? Well, if MGM has signed up to distribute its films via Xbox Live in the States, hopefully the relevant paperwork will soon be signed to have MGM's US launch movies - The Terminator, Rocky, Legally Blonde and The Silence of the Lambs - arrive on the still rather sparse and un-updated European Video Store.

And that Xbox 360 HD DVD edition? Didn't happen at all. That's a whole separate update...

I really don't care if there is or isn't going to be a HD DVD in the xbox 360... as none of the games will use this as not all xboxes would have the HD DVD.. as for being able to watch the movies.. I never watch movies on my xbox 360. its for games and does not need to be able to do this as thats what you have a 360 for... to play games...
