TV shows unlikely to come to the UK Video Store for a very, very long time

stephen_mcgill-uk-video-store.jpgSo says Microsoft's Elite-sized UK Xbox games & entertainment boss Steve McGill, who thinks the European priority for MS is to give us all films and music videos - downloadable TV's way off at the moment.

"We're focused on movies right now," McGill told Gamespot. "For us, over here, we've got movies and music videos - in the States, they've got movies and TV. It's slightly different audience profiles, so we've got what's right for our audience - movie and music stuff at the moment - and we'll see where it takes us."

Which is not a particularly great answer, really. The Yanks get loads of proper TV shows and sports events in HD format to download, so it's pretty disappointing that HD telly downloads are a long way away for us - and might not even arrive at all.

Still, the HD copy of Zodiac I cued up at lunchtime is now nearly 37% complete, so I can at least spend a happy evening watching the progress bar tick slowly upwards. Which is more fun than watching most UK TV.
