More Silent Hill 5 details crawl onto web
I can't help it. Since playing through a copy of Silent Hill 2, I've been a series fanboy. So when a few morsels of info about the upcoming sequel hit the web, this time courtesy of PLAY magazine, I get rather excited. The next installment in the spook 'em up will apparently ditch the long established static camera shots that have been a series trademark, instead going for a player-controlled camera. Additionally, the radio and flashlight will be making a comeback, with monsters reacting to light sources. One detail though gives me cause for concern. We're going to see some button mashing sequences, a la God of War, apparently. Now I like Shenmue as much as the next person, but can't devs figure out better ways of getting players involved in cutscenes?
Nevertheless, I guess we're going to have to wait and see how the game actually turns out. New camera's a good idea. I loved the story and characters of the game, but I'll be the first to admit that the camera system made controlling your character akin to steering a small tank around the level. I just hope that the game doesn't focus on combat- running away from unspeakable evil in a panic's always, always more scary than mowing it down with a minigun.

You call yourself a Silent Hill fanboy and make no mention of the first and greatest one? jeez buddy, don't think you are a fanboy then, and judging by your suprised reaction to the button mashing sequence i'll take a guess you haven't played the psp version that just came out. Silent Hill Origins.
You are not a silent hill fanboy but an xbox fanboy, there is a difference.

I haven't played Origins, but that doesn't change the fact that I think button-mashing sequences are a bad idea on the whole, they're just incredibly over-used.
I don't think the first Silent Hill's as good as part 2.While 1 and 3 had a really creepy cult vibe, I think the more psychological approach taken by 2 just works really well. In terms of plot, art direction and graphics, I think it's the strongest of the three and still one of the most well-plotted games out there.
Along with the Max Payne series.

I have played them all and would rate them in this order:
SH2: Restless dreams (love the title)
SH: Origins (too short, too easy)
SH1
SH3
SH4(since it bears the name it has to go on the list but i hated this game. it was horrible and is the only game that made me throw a controller out of frustration)
i think the button mashing sequances are stupid and i miss the option for the human tank controls. aswell as that the option for diferent puzel dificulty. the games need to slow down and get more psycological, it was never about the combat, thats why its good that you are pretty defenceless.
I dont like the whole cult thing asmuch as the crawl inside your head thing of SH2&0. the Jail scene from 2 still gives me chills. i am a silent hill fanboy. and am proud of it. SH5 needs to be slowed down and made more cerebral
