Golden Axe Beast Rider announced for next-gen consoles

Golden_Axe-Xbox_360WIP-Video636GAX_logo_final.jpgStill early days, but I can't help but feel a little ping of foreboding about the newly announced next-gen Golden Axe Beast Rider. The game's focus will now be on free-roaming environments and the various monsters that you can ride around the battlefield. You'll still apparently be able to hop off for a spot of melee combat though. You won't be playing a character from the original cast either, instead filling the shoes of series newcomer Tyris Flare, although Gillus the dwarf and Ax Battler are going to appear as supporting cast, if you care about that sort of thing.

This definitely looks like a bit of a cash-in. A series update is when you take what people liked in the original and re-imagine it- not something that this new Golden Axe seems to be that intent on, given its focus on mounted combat. Still, if it's any good, then all will be forgiven. More news on this one as we get it.
