Microsoft's Robbie Bach- PSN is no competition

Live.jpg"It's fair to say that Xbox Live is clearly head and shoulders above anything anyone else has tried to do. We don't have competition. Sony has done some things online, but nothing that can be called a service. We have a big advantage and we're going to keep pressing that advantage." So said Robbie Bach, President of Entertainment & Devices Division at Microsoft, speaking to the LA Times. Fighting talk, certainly. But Live's going to have to watch out. In terms of providing a simple set of services, it's simple and well designed. Sony's Home might be ambitious, but I'm still skeptical about how many gamers really want it as an online service.

The real challenge for Live will be in staving off the PSN's promising potential when it comes to User Generated Content for games. We've started seeing signs recently -such as with Epic's comments over bringing Unreal Tournament III to the 360- that Xbox Live might be in a weaker position should modding take off in the console world.
