Microsoft planning Second Life/Home-style virtual world?
Microsoft's Daniel Schiappa, who operates under the astounding job title of general manager of strategy for Microsoft's entertainment and devices division, dropped numerous hints that MS could be entering the virtual world scene - and it could appear on PC, Xbox 360 and Windows Mobile gadgets.
The Microsoft man was attending the Virtual Worlds Conference And Expo in San Diego, so unless he's just a big Second Life fan it's pretty clear something's in the works.
Dan commented "I think we’ve got a good understanding now of the landscape, we have a strategic plan in mind … now we have to decide how we follow-through," leading bloggers such as ourselves to leap to the conclusion that Microsoft's planning to launch a virtual world of its own - to compete with Second Life, Home, and the rumoured Google one that could launch this year.
Hopefully this won't mean the fantastic, streamlined Xbox 360 interface is about to get switched for some awful and clumsy avatar system just because all that nonsense is rather cool with the money men right now.
