HMV launching in-store Xbox 360 arcades
This is a very odd idea. HMV's Edinburgh store is going to open a special "gaming zone" this Friday, where gamers can play link-up Xbox 360 games.
27 Xbox 360s will be squeezed into the Edinburgh branch, with gamers able to wander in and play 16-player link-up matches or just mess about on Xbox Live. But there's a catch - this gaming drop-in centre costs £5 for three hours of play.
This original scheme's being tested in Edinburgh, but if the idea catches on - and, presumably, if it boosts game sales in HMV as a result - it could roll out to bigger stores across the UK. And no, there are no PlayStation3 or Wii games in it. A whole generation of Edinburgh kids is about to get brainwashed into the Xbox 360 lifestyle.

This is a great idea! It's really hard to explain to someone the difference between a single player traditional console game and a really solid online multiplayer game like Gears of War, Burnout Revenge or Halo3. Once people get a chance to try it, they'll understand why it's such a big deal and start saving their money.
I totally understand why they're going with the 360. I have Wii and PS3 as well; the Wii online is just horrible and the PS3 is very much like PC online - it works, but there are lots of cheaters and it's really hard to get a good game set up - on 360 it just works because the servers are all internal to Microsoft and the game developers like EA.
