Bionic Commando set for next-gen return

main_middle.jpgNES classic Bionic Commando is due to make a next-gen return, according to a recent release from Capcom. As you might expect, it’ll feature the Bionic arm grapple and swing mechanic from the original, re-imagined for next-gen. Apparently, you’ll be able to make your way through different environments featuring buildings, suspended roadways, deep canyons and rock faces in a variety of ways. Former lead singer of Faith No More will be providing the vocals for main character Nathan Spencer.

I’m a tad less cynical about this remake than I could be. The swinging mechanic could be an interesting one to realise in three dimensions. You can stay faithful to retro mechanics and still have excellent, innovative games, a classic example being Metroid Prime. Same concepts, but a modern approach to design. Let’s hope Bionic Commando successfully makes the same leap to the modern day.
