UK Xbox 360 sales up 260% following price cuts and Bioshock week
Isn't that nice? In the week following the price cut of the Premium and Core packs, the arrival of the Elite AND the launch of Planet Gaming's favourite new game Bioshock, UK Xbox 360 sales rocketed by 260%.
Not only that, but sales stayed up for the next week, only coming down by 20 percent. We can't do maths of that complexity, but it still sounds like good news to us.
Amusingly, in the same issue of MCV, Sony is brushing off the worst week for PSP sales since it launched. Brave Sony is saying that it's probably down to people waiting for the thinner redesigned models, rather admitting the truth - that DS is kicking the hell out of it.

Dan1581 : "I also like the PR spin that because the wii only beat them by a 3-1 sales margin last month that Sony is somehow catching up. "
The Wii oustold the PS3 by 6 to 1 in Japan, back in June. By July, the Wii's margin was down to 3 to 1.
This weeks's Japan sales figures have the Wii outselling the PS3 by just 2 to 1, so the PS3 IS catching up to the Wii in Japan. No question about that.
And that is with the PS3 selling at over twice the price of the Wii in Japan, and with no PS3 price cut in Japan, and the big PS3 games still not out.
When the PS3 gets the inevitable price cut in Japan this year, there is strong possibility that PS3 sales will at least catch up with the Wii, if not overtake the Wii.
After all, the Wii had its lowest weekly sales ever at just 39,000 this week.

Wii only sold 39,000 last month because Nintendo ran out of them.
Sony's got enough PS3s in its factories to keep up with demand until 2012.

Why on earth would you want to share your game machine with the movie watching women in the house I will never know. So its friday night I have the newest game under my arm and a smile on my face. What do I find when I get home? My wife and daughters camping out in MY space with a fist full of movies (wanting to spend family time) Yaa right.I have to endure 2 crappy chick flicks and didnt get MY space back until after midnight.Movies dont belong on my game machine and if the women are happy watching standard def up in the den...I say leave them there

That has got to hurt Sony's feelings. MS beat their sales last month without the pricedrop. HHHHMMMMM with FFXIII still in very early stages of development I can almost see the port to 360 plan crossing the minds of Square Enix. I think it is so funny how Sony said they would crush the Xbox 360 yet they had to drop their price before a year old console did. I also like the PR spin that because the wii only beat them by a 3-1 sales margin last month that Sony is somehow catching up. I'm no Math wizzard but getting beat down by your rivals since your lauch = third place with no hope of catching up. BlueRay is a flop because 9 out of ten households don't think game console when looking for a new movie format they think of stand alone players. Compare the sales of Blueray stand alones vs HD DVD and then consider that Toshiba will have players in the $100 range very soon vs $600 blueray. It is like the whole PSP minidisc format all over again. Once the PS3 becomes a game console instead of a DVD player Blueray disc sales will start to dry up or the lack of games on the PS3 will cause too few new adoptors. Either way banking on the PS3 to decide the movie format war is retarded when you consider 60% of the PS3 owners don't even know the thing does HD! Consumers like choice and most often the go middle of the road or cheap. If you need proof the top two game consoles of this generation are the 360 (middle)and Wii(cheap.
