Epic Game's Mark Rein on Unreal Tournament 3's Editor

Instagib_01_sml.jpgIn a recent UT3 IRC chat session, Epic Games took questions from the BeyondUnreal community. One user asked VP Mark Rein whether UT3 would have an “a easy match modifier for casual gamers, similar to Forge in Halo.” Mark Rein responded “You mean an in-game editor that lets you rearrange the furniture as opposed to the professional tool we actually made the game with? No, we give you the real editor we use and all the power you can handle.” Another member of the Epic Games team added “we also have mutators for swapping around weapons and such.”

I’ve said this before, but I actually think Forge being simple is a good thing. Making it a game type will be sure to induce more people into trying their hand at it, people who might not be so keen on map editing. Also, it’s likely that people really into their map editing would want to use a PC. Given that Halo 3’s only for the Xbox 360, that’s pretty much out of the question for now.
