Jackson Halo project next big undertaking for Bungie

warthog_psd_jpgcopy2.jpgSpeaking to Shacknews, Bungie’s Frank O’ Connor revealed a little of their future plans, post-Halo 3 (pictured) release. As you might expect, downloadable content for the title is already been worked on. “It'll be multiplayer stuff--the kind of things people expect, the kind of schedule you can guess.” He also spoke a little more about that top-secret Halo project with Peter Jackson, stating that “Of course, after that we're working on the Peter Jackson project. Not much more to say about that, except that it continues on pace. [Bungie producer] Curtis Creamer and [Bungie cinematics director] CJ Cowan were just driving a Warthog around New Zealand and one crashed into a wall. [laughs] They're built tough in real life too.”

"Our next massive undertaking is the thing with Peter Jackson, but beyond that people are asking what we're going to do. Will we go back and do Myth, will we go back to Marathon? The honest answer is we don't know yet, but we're prototyping. We have some choices, and we have some cool ideas."

I’m still scratching my head, wondering what the Halo project could be. Apparently, it’ll be downloadable and episodic, which is a good start. Xbox Live so far does a good line in retro and casual gaming, but there’s a lot of untapped potential in the service for more serious fare. Given the massive influence that both Peter Jackson and the Halo franchise have, it’s a canny way of getting gamers to try out downloadable content.
