HMV upset by Argos' early Halo 3 release, hopes for punishment
Saucer of milk at table five, please. It seems that UK high street retailer HMV is not very impressed at Argos’ recent ‘mix-up’ that saw copies of Halo 3 escaping into wild over a week early. Although Microsoft didn’t see fit to bring it’s mighty MJOLNIR coated fist of justice down on Argos’ head, that hasn’t gone down well with other shops that didn’t start cheekily flogging their copies early.
HMV has called on Microsoft, with whom it has a “fantastic relationship”, to smite these fearsome release-date-breakers, saying “we hope that any competitors that blatantly flout street dates, and let everyone else down, will face appropriate sanctions, so that such behaviour is discouraged in future."
Argos has insisted that it’s breaking of the street date was down to an administrative error.
With yet more high profile launches due out over the next few months (although none on quite the same scale), it’ll be interesting to see if any more ‘administrative errors’ see early copies escaping into the hands of the baying public.
