Bungie defends Halo 3 graphics
A lot of reviews of Halo 3, while positive, are of the opinion that it’s not the most graphically impressive game out there. Speaking in interview with Pro-G, Bungie cinematic designer Lee Wilson defended Halo 3’s graphics stating that Bungie was delighted at how they had turned out. “It's completely immersive. The art direction is immaculate. It's not trying to be incredibly photo realistic or painting this grimy world. It's vibrant and it's fun and it's accessible," he said.
Multiplayer producer Joe Tung also defended Halo 3's graphics, stating that "Stuff like the water, stuff like our HDR model, I think that stuff is so beautiful and so subtle and over time I hope people will appreciate that stuff as much as we do right now."
I’d agree that on a graphical level, Halo 3 isn’t as eye-catching or detailed as titles like BioShock or Gears of War. The game’s got a lot of very nice touches, runs smoothly, but stops short of really excelling or providing the same graphical 'wow' that we've seen with some other 360 titles. Still, I have to admit that although the character detail isn’t as high as it could be, the animation and particle effects –particularly when viewed using the saved film feature- are fantastically well done.
