Xbox 360 "under pressure" and needs to perform this winter
That's according to calculator-wielding boffins at DFC Intelligence, who reckon Xbox 360's in danger of getting swamped by Wii and could fall to any resurgence of PS3 sales.
DFC reckons "Xbox 360 is running behind where they should be to maintain a strong market position," pointing out that Microsoft's sold just over one million consoles so far this year - while Nintendo's shifted six million Wiis.
The full and quite negative report, reproduced over at GameDaily, stresses the importance of Halo 3 - not only selling well, but also boosting sales of Xbox 360 to keep the console 'up there' this year and next.
They're also worried about Xbox 360 losing its position as #1 console for online gaming - but that just makes us think these report writers haven't got much of a clue about anything, as Xbox 360's still light years ahead of PS3 and Wii online.
Hopefully the rumoured/upcoming 50 dollar/euro price cut will give 360 a kick up the arse and stop the accountants whining.

WHATEVER dude! The 360 may of had a bump in the road but it will continue to sell and lead the ps3. The wii might pass it up but it sure won't be long befor the 360 passes the wii!!!! Look! All I hear from kids since I work at a middle school is they want or perfer the 360 over the ps3 they are the new gen....And Microsoft is burning the 360 in their heads.

The 360 is finished! All your consoles are defective! muahahahaha death to xbox!
In all honesty MS have no where to go from here, sales dropped by 61% over the last quaterly and no one wants a poorly built machine.
Get out while you still can. I feel sorry for all of the customers who....no I don't suckers!

Dillusional,
MS had burned more than 20 BILLION dollars on their XBOX experiments, and there is no end in sight to these losses.. 7+ years, and still hemorraging money like nobodies business.
The 360 is going to move 25 Million total units give or take total, that's it.... its another resounding failure for MS, investors should be demanding MS close this dog down and stop wasting money.
Wii in about 10 months has moved more units than 360 has in 22 months, and while XBOX's are failing at a rate of about 30% or higher because they are pieces of crap, their market position continues to deteriorate.
The PS3 will outsell the 360 when all is said and done, with WII being the overall winner this gen, PS3 second and MS a paultry third place.
HALO is not enough to carry a console, and it won't be enough to ensure the 360 of anything other than a last place finish.
It's momentum is lost, the HALO spike (small as it will be) will be the 360's last hurrah. The PS3 will take a while to grow, but as better games show up, and Blu-Ray is the obvious winner in the hi def wars, and prices come down Sony will outsell the 360.. by the end of this cycle by a significant amount.

Still too early to tell with this console war. This is the kind of thing that should be reviewed after 2-3 years being on the market.
Either way, I have said this on other blogs, usually ones which have 360 fan boys bashing the ps3, why does one have to lose? Isn't there room for all 3 consoles? More to the point, won't gaming be better for all of us in an environment filled with cross platform competition? Is either the ps3 or the 360 loses, what happens to games? I believe they will become stale, the innovation will be gone because why bother putting out a top notch product when you've got no competition? 360 will have Halo soon, which means ps3 will be working their asses off to get an online shooter out there that will compete with Halo. What would sony be putting out if 360 wasn't putting Halo out? YEah, there'd be a shooter or 2, but I sincerly doubt that we'd see anything much better than ps2 quality. Why? No competition = why bother - so whoever wins ends up with a monopoly and we'll all have to rethink the idea of PC gaming to get anything decent.

There is no need to "wait and see" another 2 years... at least not to know who's won this generation in terms of installed base.
WII has it won hands down, its vanquished the 360 which had over a years head start in about 10 months.. and its still selling out as soon as a shipment comes in. This and most of Big N's franchises haven't even hit the system yet.
Metroid Prime 3 will redefine the FPS/FPA, even the ardent "wii is for kiddies and casual people" will be buying this system to play this game. You cannot replace the interaction and actual immerssion of human movement with analog sticks and button combos. Need to interact with a keypad in the game, you move your hand, aim your gun, you point your gun... etc etc etc.
Mario, Smash Bros, etc... Wii has momentum and pleanty of top tier games in the pipeline... And the most exclusives in development (combined with a cheaper overall game production cost, developing a wii game costs about less than 1/2 the cost of developing a PS3 or 360 game) ensures that 3rd party support will grow and continue.
360 has Halo.. that's it. PS3 will have MGSIV. PS3 overall will grow, they have harmed themselves in initial sales by ensuring the Blu Ray was in the PS3, but its a decision that has helped them effectively win the far more important HD format war. As prices drop, and HD becomes more adopted, the PS3 will continue to increase its sales. 360 has already hit the wall.
The Wii with its focus on how the user actually interacts with the system, will continue to dominate and innovate gaming. The WII fit game seems silly, but the board will be used by developers for things like Skateboarding, snowboarding and other games interaction. It doesn't take a genious to see that this will continue to drive adoption and sales. What is a person going to prefer? Mashing buttons and pushing analog sticks, or leaning, jumping, etc?
The only debate in this gen is who is going to wind up 2nd and who is going to wind up 3rd. 1st is pretty much a given. Big N has a cheaper product with broader appeal and is growing the market. Sony and MS are fighting for the same small pie of customers, relative to the sea Nintendo is fishing in.
Breakdown will be this: Hard Core, will own all 3 systems... moderate will own a Wii and one other system, and everyone else will be Wii. There will be exceptions to these generalizations, but that's how its going to play out.
Personally I think MS will wind up 3rd place at the end of the day, I just don't see anything that convinces me they will sell more 360s than they did regular XBOXes and if they do, it won't be many more. Sony will be the biggest loser in terms of installed base, the PS3 will not be 100 Million unit product. However it should do nicely and wind up a solid #2. Biggest winner, hands down is Big N.

The 3shitty is not lightyears ahead of PS3. U may think so in terms of how much content they have or how it's more intergrated into the system, but as soon as more multiplayer games start to come out for the PS3 you will see a major rise in the PSN, and also the fact that the PSN is FULLY FREE you will see the PS3 and PSN take over fully!! It's only a matter of time my boys.
