Xbox 360 IPTV launching this year - but only for BT users

xbox-360-iptv.jpgIn case you didn't know... IPTV is telly through the internet, with programmes and films stored on a massive server like that computer in Forbidden Planet, then streamed or downloaded to some little box under your telly. A box like Xbox 360.

IPTV on Xbox 360 was shown off briefly at January's Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas. The service adds a new "Television" tab to your console's Videos screen, from which you're able to launch films in a separate window - a bit like playing a DVD - or queue them up for download to watch at your leisure.

Despite BT confirming it's launching Xbox 360 IPTV at the end of the year, news about what's going to be available and how much it's all going to cost is non-existent. There's not much point getting excited about it if all we get to watch is old episodes of Viva Pinata.

With IPTV and the Video Marketplace both on the way to the UK, there will soon be lots more options to give people money to watch things you'd traditionally get on TV for free.
