Paramount dumps Blu-ray support and goes HD DVD exclusive
Great news for Xbox-owning fans of mediocre Will Ferrell movies!
Paramount has, after lots of surveying and questionnaire-ing of the public, decided that HD-DVD is the next-gen format that's going to win the war. Or, at least, the next-gen format that's going to lose it the least money in the mid-term future.
"HD DVD is not only the affordable high quality choice for consumers, but also the smart choice for Paramount," said Paramount Pictures chairman and CEO Brad Grey of the deal to dump Blu-ray for HD DVD, a deal which also covers Dreamworks productions like Shrek, Transformers and, er, Norbit.
This should give HD DVD some decent ammunition when it comes to fending off Blu-ray's exclusive Spider-Man 3 this Christmas. It won't, however, make more than about 50 people give a toss about HD movie formats.
