No more inceases in XBLA size say Microsoft. Boo.

xbla.jpgFounding member of XBLA Katie Stone, speaking at Gamefest 2007, confirmed that there isn’t to be another increase in the size cap limit for XBLA titles.

Though the cap was increased from a lowly 50MB to 150MB only this year, with Sony stating that they intend to bring full-on multi gigabyte, the pressure is on Microsoft to raise the limit yet again and give developers a little more space to play around with to offer us some stunning gaming experiences.

But with Stone’s admission that she sees the 150MB cap as something that allows developers to, “focus on the innovation,” it seems unlikely that there’s any plans in the near future to allow bigger XBLA titles to be released.

A double edged sword of an announcement. On the one hand, she’s perfectly correct that such a minimal cap does indeed encourage developers to innovate rather than simply wow us with graphics. However, the huge number of twin stick shooters populating XBLA at the moment goes to show that perhaps some developers require a little kick up the backside to tempt them to let their talented juices truly flow.
