Microsoft deny ‘major design flaw’ with Xbox 360

redlights.jpg
Not too surprisingly, in response to the earlier news that according to an expert the Xbox 360 suffers from major design flaws, Microsoft spout the same old claims that most gamers have had no problems with their 360’s.

Despite the quite blatant proof that the 360 does indeed suffer from a series of flaws that inhibit the performance of the console, and are the major cause of its unreliability, Microsoft – talking to CVG – still flatly refuse to take responsibility. A Microsoft spokesperson stated that, “there is no single root cause or systemic issue with any of the Xbox 360 consoles.”

So again, they still refuse to admit the blatant problems with the console. It’s been proven by experts, and it’s ridiculously rare to find yourself befriending a gamer who still possess a fully working launch unit. It’s even been on Watchdog! Strange how an even more complex console in the PS3 doesn’t manage to suffer from the same brand of faults. Funny that, isn’t it Microsoft? Anyone fancy putting a bet on when they’ll finally admit it?

Yup...it's sad that xbox supporters along with microsoft, can't/won't bring themselves to admit this.

The console IS, infact..an unreliable piece of garbage.

Stick to PS3, amazing games, amazing hardware, amazing support...decade dominance & counting.

They don't have to admit it really, it's covered by a warranty and therefor you will get the working console that you paid for. Besides, I have seen people commit war crimes when dealing with electronics and then cry when they stop working.

And just as a note, perhaps the Wii and PS3 haven't been out long enough for certain flaws to surface. Though just to name a couple, the Wii had faulty wrist straps and the PS3 has a non-standard floating point unit which makes it rediculously hard to program (GTA4 delays). By non-standard I mean non IEEE compliant and it actually gives the wrong answers :-(

All consoles have problems. If they are dealt with correctly, like the xbox 360's extended warranty, then "experts" should stop complaining. Seriously stop, it's annoying.

If you think 3 years warranty is enough. You can pretty much gurantee that you will only have the console for 3 years, because I don't like the odds of it lasting longer than the warranty period.

My PS2 has been ticking along for 7 years without a hitch. I wouldn't have been happy if it died 4 years ago.

Lies, all lies. People just won't rest until they kill the beast. The beast is already out a year ahead of the rest and over 11 million strong over the other 2 systems. Wii is targeting kids with nothing more than original NES 80's style graphics, they have a bigger hand in the cookie jar at the moment, I'll give you that. But as soon as that niche is tapped out you are going to really see the crash. I do happen still have and almost daily play my XBOX 360 bought at launch in fall 2005. It did have the 3 red light problem 4 or 5 months out, and the support from Microsoft was nothing short of first rate/top notch, less than 1 month, and now I still have about another year warranty (that I paid nothing for) on this 2005 system, they refunded my $130 payment in FULL. What more could you ask for? Free repair, free 3 yr warranty? I don't know of ANY products that come with a FREE 3 yr warranty, and repair for FREE? PS3 hasn't even been out a year and they have hardly any games for their system, and nothing is really block buster as of yet, and they have already lowered their price. Proving it's an overpowered and over priced megolith that nobody knows what to do with and aint nothing but falling hard, whether any of you like it or not. 360 and XBOX LIVE is where it is at and if you enjoy gaming in crystal clear reality, in an online world wide arena at it's best, and they have that, hands down, no competition, whether any of you like that or not. Maybe you should get yourself one and see what online gaming really is with XBOX 360 and XBOX LIVE.

Doesn't anybody think that it is not the Xbox's fault? Maybe it is the user? Are these people keeping there Xbox's well ventilated? I have had no problems related to overheating with my 360. I think that people are having problems because they aren't taking care of their xbox and making sure is has proper ventilation.

alright i have a ps3 and a 360 had them both since launch and once i finished gears of war my 360 ended up dying days later i was pissed got it fixed and had nothing to do so i started playing my ps3 more often i started realizing that playing resistance online is way funner and that compared to xbox live the ps network is ok but i think that sony has got way better games coming then my 360 sure halo 3 will be great but its not about one game and the ps network just keeps getting better with the ps3 firmware updates as well so all im saying is you got to give things a chance i found out playing my ps3 was way funner but i still like my xbox but not as much as my ps3.

Seriously man are you still on blame the consumer, well ventilated argument? Let's just assume your 60ish IQ argument is correct and it is the user. Assuming the PS3 has the same type of consumer of the 360, why the heck does it have less than a 1% failure rate vs the 360's 30-40% rate (I for one think it is a 100% failure rate but that's just me)? The most logical argument I can think of is that the PS3 is a much more expensive console therefore a more responsible and adult consumer must own one (ignoring that fact that the blu ray disc attachment rate is less than 1 per console in the US meaning that the consumer base is young adults or parents purchasing the system for their siblings), but hey let's look at the "kiddie" Wii...yup, an even lower failure rate. Consumer abuse is clearly not the problem.

The PS3 had some units at launch that had loading issues while Wii's had wrist strap (non-hardware mind you) and blank screen issues. However, just 1-2 months after launch these issues were swiftly fixed. Here we are going on 2yrs and people are still complaining about the red lights of death. Personally, I have been through 4 consoles and finally just gave up when MS said I was out of warranty and had to pay $150 to fix my scratched up assembly line refurbished crap unit (my luck, this is 1 week before they announced a 3yr warranty). So I purchased a PS3 and have yet to even have a freeze or framerate issue. Seriously, the thing runs smooth as silk.

For all those Sony fanboys about the jump on the Kmach letter bandwagon, while I dig the PS3 it does suck compared to a fully functioning 360. The games are not that sweet and the online leaves a lot to be desired. As of the time of this writing the best games I have played are:

Resistance
Ninja Gaiden Sigma
Madden 2007
Formula 1: Championship Edition

Sure there is Warhawk and Lair coming out but they have nothing on the 360 releases of Bioshock, Halo 3, and Mass Effect. And the 3rd party ports for the system suck such as Madden and Rainbow Six (can't wait to see if they screwed up GRAW2). Bottom line: If the 360 is working it blows the PS3's online, gameplay, and graphics out of the water....however....that's if your system is broken and you spend 3mos out of the year shipping your broken $400 gaming machine back to MS.

So far I am DEEPLY disapointed with this generation of gaming, was hoping for the innovation and games that the 128bit (PS2vXboxvGC) generation gave us. Nothing but empty game line-ups, public lies, and broken hardware. Seriously, do I sound like a biased fanboy? I am telling it like it is. If you have convinced yourself that a system that breaks every 3-6mos is acceptable...hooray for you. If you have convinced yourself that paying $600 for a gaming rig that has no games was a good deal.....hooray for you. If you are over the age of 21 and own a Wii....................................................................................................well............you really just plain suck. I own all three systems so therefore I really suck. However, in my defense, I got a Wii to play with my wife. Didn't happen, she thinks it sucks and so therefore sits collecting dust. My 360 broke so I did the towel trick and traded it for a PS3....yup.....the PS3 sucks but is still more enjoyable than a broken system sitting on my shelf. Hang me, crucify me, whatever...is it such a sin to just want to sit down a play a good game?! PS: Hasn't happened yet.

the x-box360 is a great system as well is the ps3. I tried both. But i prefer the 360. Here's why.the 360 may have overheating problems, but its never failed me once.thats because i have a fan stand to cool it down.also i don't play it four 10 or 20 hours at time. Now lets do sony.I had the sony ps1,about 6 times over,it fried six times! and sony new there was a problem. It's easy they moved the laser optical to the other side of the system. And still to this day, still don't admit the problem.next the ps2.It's a little better,I only had three of them fry.On the third the xbox came out.On the xbox i had 1 fry, then i got the 2nd.3 months later the 360 came out.To this day since april 7 2006 when i bought the 360,no problems. The ps3 i tried, was a friends,he loves it.but until it gets more games, its not for me.But even after all the the problems i had with sony,1 day i will buy one.I also bought,on the day i got my 360,was a psp,and it to hasn't fried.Thats why i will sooner or later i will pick up a ps3.These systems always will have a problem, but sooner or later they get it right.Just don't let the thing overheat,i mean give the system a break every 2 hours, just save @ turn the power off for a hour or two.

I've got a fully working console that I bought 12 months ago. Never had a problem with it. You see there are problems with overheating yes, that's obvious. But if you take steps to make sure it's got adequate air flow around the unit it works perfectly. And I play the thing for 3 hours a day most days of the week. I also played it 12 hours a day for a full week when I was off work...er... 'sick', and never had a problem.

People shove the unit into a small area designed for dvd players and then wonder why the thing dies on them. And yes, the PS3 will suffer the same fortune in those cirsumstances, albeit with a smaller failure rate.

That Intercooler thing, and other non official Microsoft products is probably the root of this whole f^d problem. When I had my system returned I asked the MS phone rep if I should consider one, they flat out said plain old NO, and went so far as to say that anything not official might result in a conflict and wreck the machine. I also do agree a tight spot is not great for any electrical unit, these machines all need room to breathe. I do have to confess I used my 360 alot b4 it blew and left it on quite often, at times all day, so any of these could be variables, but was something I was used to with the old original Xbox. I also would like to say I didn't mean to knock Nintendo so harshly, the original NES was my first system going all the way back to Pong (telling my age now lol) that had a problem. Original NES out of the box on Christmas wouldn't work, wrecked me and my brother for atleast a month. Called Nintendo and they did get it fixed/replaced without a charge.
