Latest Xbox 360 System Update goes live
A new update has gone up for the Xbox 360. That means that next time you log in to Xbox Live you’ll be prompted to make this mandatory upgrade. Major Nelson points out that this is not the major biannual update – it’s just a slight adjustment necessary to add support for upcoming wireless guitar peripherals.
It does seem like a pretty minor thing to initiate a mandatory update over, especially when it could have been automatically prompted by the games that support the wireless guitar peripherals, such as Rock Band and Guitar Hero III. Is Microsoft slipping through some additional security updates? Or – and this is the more appealing option – could it mean backward compatibility between the wireless guitar controllers with older guitar rhythm games? Or are there some Xbox Live title planning to make use of them somehow? Your guess is as good as ours.
