Hard drive only games get the go ahead from Microsoft

360-hd-required.jpgAll this current "fuss" about "hard drive only" games forgets one thing - last year's Xbox 360 Football Manager required the hard drive in order to run, as did the forgotten online world of Final Fantasy XI, so it's not exactly big news.

In fact, the current "fuss" seems to be about whether (no offence, Football Manager) big-name, Triple A games are allowed to go hard drive only, as you can only imagine the angry letters sent (or more likely texted) to Microsoft HQ if a game like, say, GTA IV, suddenly arrived and wouldn't work on any of the Core machines out there.

Microsoft's Ian Lewis confirmed the arrival of more HD-only games, also summing up the problem nicely at the XNA Gamefest event, saying "feel free to require 30GB for your game – that's just going to make your potential audience a lot smaller."
