Halo 3: 99.99% complete
According to the latest Bungie.net weekly update, work on Halo 3 is “roughly 99.9% complete.” That final .1%, in case you’re wondering, features testing in a controlled retail environment. That’s the Halo 3 Epsilon we’ve recently heard about. According to Bungie, it’ll include multiplayer-focused map customisation tool The Forge, the three maps that were in the beta as well as Last Resort and Sandtrap and one mission from the single-player campaign, Tsavo Highway.
The update shed some more light on The Forge, which looks pretty cool. It will allow you to mess around with vehicle, weapon and player spawn points and timers, add certain objects to maps, and more. That’s not all- you’ll also be able to use Forge to play games. According to the update, “Up to eight players can be on a given map at a time, shifting back and forth between their chosen multiplayer model and the Forge model – a Monitor. Players can play actual games in Forge, goof around, kill each other, play Slayer where each team designates a Monitor to supply weapons, vehicles, equipment and cover on the fly.”
Sounds like a good way of putting in some User-Generated elements into the game. It’s unlikely that we’re ever going to see the same degree of complexity on the Xbox 360 as afforded by PC modding tools, but The Forge sounds like it could be a decent trade-off between creation and gameplay.
