Sony say HD DVD will be dead in months!
Gamasutra.com are reporting that the new senior vice president of marketing for the Playstation, Peter Dille, has commented that the Xbox 360 can not sustain itself over a decade (unlike the PS3 - obviously!) and also expressed his opinion that the HD DVD format will be dead within a matter of months! Rather a bold statement for a Sony rep to make considering all the issues they had getting BD technology in their machine in the first place!
Dille also pointed fingers at the MS strategy for the original Xbox even going so far as to say that MS have never been successful! Incredible comments and you can see what else Dille had to say below!
"I don’t want to be argumentative, but I take issue with Microsoft either having a long tail, or being profitable, because they’ve never done either. They’ve never made a dime in this business, number one, and number two, they’ve never had a tail. They’ve never been successful enough to have a tail! So the notion of a back half of the curve doesn’t exist for them. They stopped the Xbox and I kind of feel for the guy that bought an Xbox the month before they said ‘we’re out of business, we’re moving on.’"
"The reason I get a little emotional about that is it’s in stark contrast to our approach. If we’ve got something that says PlayStation, we’re going to stand behind it for 10 years, and deliver games like God of War II in the 7th year of the cycle."
"With the Xbox 360 you’ve got an inconsistent design, some have a hard drive, some don’t, and none of them have Blu-Ray, and the HD-DVD will be out of business in a matter of months. Is this a 10 year product? And by the way, it doesn’t even work. Do they want to be selling it for 10 years and refurbishing them all for 10 more years? I don’t think that’s a 10 year product. You could disagree with me, or they could disagree with me, but I’d put that up against the PS3 any day."

no one is buying the ps3? is that why its sold millions of units all over the world, the only reason the sales on 360 are so high is because they all break and millions of people have bought more than one...

WOW! he needs a vacation. Maby he is jealous that the 360 is doing so well compared to the PS3. as for HD-DVD its not dead, its not even out of the gate. toshiba will be putting HD-players in all their laptops soon, also HD-DVD is cheaper to produce i beleive. I have never had a problem with my 360 and i can count one one hand the good games the PS3 have now compared to all the good titles the 360 has and upcoming titles.
PS3 is a great console and im sure it will do well, but its not Xbox 360. The Xbox live is superior to PS3 network, it has rumble (PS3s on the way). and if i had $600 in my pocket today, i still would buy a 360 over a PS3 anyday. i dont need or want a Blu-ray player or a HD-DVD player. so why jam that down my throat like the PS3 did. I like what Microsoft does, they give the customer the option of what they want. and as for support inconsitancy, didnt sony already kill their 20 GB model, and already jump from 60 GB to 80 GB? isnt that all over the board also. F U sony. you tell lies and complain about other peoples good merits. its loosers like that and comments that just belittles sony, you should be ashamed of yourself for this childish comments. If u worked for me and made comments like that, you would be fired. Get to making games and improve your system, we all know microsoft has loads of $$ and are in it for the long haul.

first of all, you should learn to read the full article/comment before shooting off your ignorant mouth. no one said ps3 isn't selling, what was said is that it seems that no one is buying that overpriced hunk of plastic as a standalone b-ray player, which if you had either read or understood you would see how truly pathetic you are....
and it does seem like sony is getting desperate, just look in the news today, someone from a sony ip address just had to try and bash halo3 by editing a wikipedia entry...lmao

watched the news lately? toshiba just dumped hd dvd and are backing blu ray!
warner bros just dumped hd dvd for blu ray !
i have all 3 next gen consoles and these are my views
1. xbox360 is "atm" the better games machine, wii is stupid (wasted my money tbh ^_^) and the ps3 will dominate in the long run!
2. ps3 is a much better media machine and wins all round
3. ps3 is the most powerful
4. fact ! ps2 is outselling xbox360, normal xbox and ps3 put together! ps2 ftw
5. 360 has about 5 good games ps3 has about 3 atm but about 20 more than 360 coming out 2008, wii sucks in the games department :(
6. xbox360 can't even do full hd .. says 1080p on the box?? yes.. but since when do normal DVD's do high def?..any 1 who spent extra on an elite lol ! noobs you just watsed your money on a console that is just too old i give 360 until late 2008 before no 1 even cares about it any more
7. xbox 720 is already been released for a 2009 Q4 2010 Q1 launch ... first console to last under 5 years even the dreamcast did better !
blu ray is the future blu ray is now !!

WoW! These obviously honest and heartfelt comments coming from the Playstation president of marketing? Awesome! I am so moved by his comments that I may just donate my XBOX 360 and HD DVD add-on to some charity and BUY a Playstation3! Oh wait, he's PAID by Sony to create revenue for a BILLION+ $$$ losing machine. Of course he's going to say that Sony wins. Unfortunately for him it seems that people are NOT buying the Playstation3 as a BR player (see the sales ratio of PS3's to BR discs) and they have 2 or 3 DECENT games after 8 months of release! Desperation is in the air: you can taste it coming from the Sony camp.
Something else that registered on my radar this week is that Disney announced that XBOX LIVE will feature their films (and their subsidiary companies films) on Tuesday. Guess what? By Wednesday evening, PDT, they already had movies on XBOX LIVE! I can see it now... "Toy Story: The Collection" on HD DVD just in time for the holidays this year.
