Halo for the DS prototype exists?
Talking to Siliconera, Bungie’s Brian Gerard and Frank O’ Connor talked a little about the long-rumoured DS version of Halo, with Frank O’ Connor stating that “I believe we got pitched for it several times." Brian Gerard also spoke on the subject, stating “Every once in awhile it comes up. Somebody out there some developer pitches and tries to make it happen,”adding that “It's very likely that somebody at some point in time created a prototype and tried to pitch it." However, Brian Gerard was clear that " there has never been an officially funded or sanctioned development of any sort of DS Halo game."
The idea of a handheld console FPS apparently doesn't appeal to Frank O' Connor, who stated that "I mean if it wasn’t a drain on resources. The problem is the DS is not an FPS console right? It’s not an FPS handheld. There really is no such thing. If we did something cool I would like to see it. But I would rather see the Halo IP on any handheld system applied to a different genre because handhelds don’t necessarily do FPS well."
Halo on the DS would be an interesting one: I think that Nintendo’s console has shown itself a lot more capable of handling FPS games with its touchscreen than any portable before it. Metroid Prime: Hunters was definitely pretty playable. Still, translating the FPS gameplay to provide an authentic Halo experience without feeling like a bad console port would be tough. Additionally, Microsoft might not be that keen to get the flagship Halo franchise to other consoles.
