Xbox Live Video Marketplace arriving in Europe this year?

Robin Burrows, Xbox Live product manager for the UK and Ireland, has been speaking to 360Zine about the possibility of Xbox Live Video Marketplace reaching the Europe. “Yes, it will come to Europe” he explained, “We hope to have some content that hits in 2007”.

Clearly Microsoft is still heavily involved in sifting through the mountains of legal issues that affect the launch of a service of this kind. But at least it looks like it is making some kind of headway. I have to admit that I’m not confident about it making a debut this side of 2008; even once the rights issues has been covered, you’ve still got the problems of regionalisation – something that Sony appears to be struggling with in its efforts to bring content to the rival PlayStation Store.

This also stands at odds with rumours of a European Xbox 360 Elite hitting shelves later in the summer. There is currently no where near enough content to make having the 120GB drive worthwhile. Early adopters might be eager for the black version, but to release it without a supporting Live service risks more criticism for Microsoft. And more complaints about the Elite is about the last thing the manufacturer needs now.
