MS cracking down on fake Xbox Live accounts

Livelogo.jpgThe Spring Xbox 360 Dashboard update isn’t just going to bring extra feature happiness: Microsoft has stated that they would be cracking down on gamers opening Xbox Live accounts in other regions. The May 7 update will make it harder for you to open up foreign accounts and download content exclusive to other countries, as reported by CVG.

It’s a shame, but understandable. As Microsoft said in a statement "As a general policy we try to get global rights to content, but in some cases, it's not possible because of legal restrictions," adding that "in other instances, we have to get legal rights on a country-by-country basis, which unfortunately results with us having content on the service that has to be filtered based on geographical location." It’s a little frustrating though having to wait months for the Xbox Live Video Marketplace. Clearing content legally and localising it can be pretty tough, but Microsoft is going to have to work hard to insure that gamers outside the US feel that they’re not getting forgotten.
